The adventurous trails – On the Kedar Tal trek, one has to pass through several challenging sections. The first trail passes through three quarters of the trail to Bhoj Kharak, which is a rock face. Then you will see the notorious spider well that goes down to the river. Here you will find a narrow ledge that you have to cross by walking to reach the other side. Then you will reach the final trail that leads to Kedar Tal. This trail is rocky, hence you have to be careful about your steps.

The beautiful Kedar Tal trek – After trekking through the adventurous trail, you will get the sight of the beautiful Kedar Tal lake. This serene lake will make you amazed with its beauty. According to different weathers, the lake changes its color, such as blue, grey, emerald, or a combination of all these three colors. When the water remains still, you will see the reflection of the mountain on the blue-green surface of the lake.

How difficult is Kedar Tal trek –

Kedar Tal trek is considered as a difficult one for its high altitude. The Kedar Tal trek climbs up very swiftly to the highest altitude of 15,485 feet. Trekkers hardly get three days to climb this high altitude. This risky trekking trail may make the trekkers prone to the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness. Apart from the high altitude, the presence of deep snow spread over the trails also has made the Kedar Tal trek difficult. It becomes more difficult within the months of May and June. Also, you will see some tricky sections on the trail, that have made this trek difficult. These tricky sections need measured footsteps and proper preparation before attempting this trek.

Who can participate in the Kedar Tal trek –

Apart from experienced trekkers, novice trekkers also can attempt this difficult trek. But this trek requires enough preparation both mentally and physically. If someone is trying to attempt the Kedar Tal trek, the person should be fit and should have sufficient stamina to cover at least 5 kilometers of distance within 30 minutes. Moreover, the person should have the capability of carrying a backpack of 10-15 kg. Peoples who have heart issues, asthma, and high blood pressure, can not attempt the Kedar Tal trek.

  • Packed lunch on the way.
  • Will reach camp site by afternoon.
  • Stay in tent.

Day 3: Trek from Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak

  • Trek: 4.5 km, 4-5 hours.
  • Sufficient water sources on the way.
  • Hot lunch at camp site.
  • Stay in tent.

Day 4: Trek from Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal and back to Kedar Kharak

  • Trek: 5 km, 4-5 hours one way.
  • No water sources today, carry enough water from kedar kharak
  • Stay in tent.

Day 5: Trek from Kedar Kharak to Gangotri

  • Trek: 13.5 km, 8-9 hours.
  • Enough water sources on the way.
  • Packed lunch on the way.
  • Stay in guest house.

Day 6: Drive from Gangotri to Dehradun

  • Drive: 240 km, 8-9 hours.
  • Breakfast and lunch on the way (not included in the cost).
  • Gangotri to Dehradun driving time may increase due to of heavy traffic. Make your further travel plane from Dehradun after 9:00 pm.

Best time to attempt for Kedar Tal trek-

Usually, two seasons are considered as ideal to attempt Kedar Tal trek. One is between the months of May to June, and the other is from September to October. During these months this trekking destination appears with its utmost beauty.

If you plan your trek during the months of May or June, you will witness snow on the Kedar Tal trail. Even the Kedar Tal lake also gets frozen during these months. During these months, you will see the snow cover mountains such as Mount Bhrigupanth and Mount Thalaysagar that offer the exceptional beauty of this region. On the other hand, if you plan your trek during the months of September to October, you will witness the best views of the mountains.

If you will plan this trek after the monsoon season, you may find it a little bit easier to reach Kedar Tal as this time there will be less amount of snow on the trail.

Trekking shoes: The most important thing on a trek is a good pair of trekking shoes. Your trekking experience can be totally dependent on how comfortable your shoes are. Make sure you are carrying shoes which are specifically designed for trekking, all sports shoes are not trekking shoes to keep that in mind. The trail can be slippery at places and will require shoes with a good grip and ankle support system.


Backpack (40-60 liters): A backpack with sturdy straps and a supporting frame. Rain cover for backpack is essential.

Risk: Injuries Often, whilе trekking оvеr difficult terrains, уоu might hаvе minor injuries likе leg sprain, bruises, etc. Sеriоuѕ injuries likе fractures оr major cuts аrе vеrу rare.

Response: All оur Trek Leaders аrе Certified Wilderness Firѕt Aid responders. Thеу аrе trained tо handle emergencies аnd саn tackle minor injuries with a well-equipped firѕt аid kit. In case оf ѕеriоuѕ injuries, thе patient iѕ carried оn a stretcher tо thе nearest road-head аnd iѕ led tо nearest medical center.

Risk: Lack of оf communication devices In thе remote areas оf thе Himalayas, mobile networks dо nоt reach. On a trek, оnе iѕ cut оff frоm thе world оf calls, SMSs оr watsapps.

In case, you wish to cancel your trek, please call us directly at our contact number. The cancellation charges are as under:
  1. Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek — full refund.
  2. Cancellation between 30 days and 20 days to the start of the trek — 50% refund.
  3. Cancellation less than 20 days to the start of the trek — no refund.
Please note: In case of refund, there will be a deduction of 4% (cancellation charges) from the total fee you have paid. Also, if you have opted for a trek insurance, the amount will not be refunded.
If a trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc), GoAdven will issue a trek voucher for the full amount. The voucher can be redeemed for the same trek or another trek in the next one year.
